The beginnings of the Safeway story began in 1915, when M.B. Skaggs purchased a small grocery store from his father. He worked effortlessly to promote Skaggs as a high quality, low price, and customer friendly grocery store. His work paid off and after 11 years he had opened over 400 Skagg locations. This led to him merging Skaggs with 322 Skeligs stores and renaming the entire enterprise as “Safeway”.

They operate as a banner store for the Albertson company and have a strong presence in the United States and Canada.
